Is Your Fear of Making Mistakes Holding You Back?

albert-einstein-mistake-quoteMistakes, we all make them; well we mere mortals do anyhow.  However, for many of us the fear of making mistakes stops us from doing many things in life, which will enable us to grow and develop both personally and professionally.

We start out ok, were you or I afraid of making a mistake when we were learning to crawl, walk or talk??  The answer is no, at this stage in our development we hadn’t learned to be afraid of making mistakes.  We would grab onto objects and pull ourselves to a standing position and put one foot in front of the other until we got.  We would babble out a lot da’s and ba’s until we got the speaking down.   It didn’t matter how many times we fell or got the word wrong, we were eagerly encouraged to try again by our mum or dad.

Somehow all this begins to change when we get to school.  Suddenly it matters how fast you can learn.  The fast learners, the ones who make very few mistakes are always encouraged in school, while the rest of us are made to feel stupid.

The simple truth is that we all learn in different ways and at different speeds, and mistakes are part of the learning process, and it’s important that we realise this.  When you or I are making mistakes we are learning and growing.  Yep that’s right, learning and growing.  We have discovered a new way of how not to do something.  Remember what Thomas Eddison Said after he failed over 2,500 times trying to create the light bulb “I am not discouraged, for every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”  I thank god he did, I might be writing this by candle light if he’d given up!!

I believe that in life we have to see our mistakes for what they really are, part of our learning curve.  So the next time you make a mistake, don’t beat yourself up about it. Simply change your strategy and try again and again and again until you achieve the required result.  You may not believe it, but I have just given you the Blueprint for Success in any area of your life;-)

So go forth in 2015 seeking a life of adventure, excitement and growth don’t worry about your mistakes, just keep boldly going where you’ve never gone before.

To your success,

Roma Catherine.
